I am an Associate Professor in Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Otago in New Zealand, where I have worked since 2009. I am originally from Germany and got my PhD from the University of Potsdam/Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) under the supervision of Helmut Friedrich. My research focuses on partial differential equations, analysis and numerics, differential geometry, and applications in mathematical physics, especially general relativity and cosmology. Most recently, I have been studying the fully nonlinear general relativistic dynamics of the cosmic Big Bang singularity. In this work, I have been involved in the development and application of the so-called Fuchsian PDE method, a rigorous tool for analysing the long-term singular dynamics of quasilinear hyperbolic PDEs.
My research is currently partially supported by the Marsden Fund Council from Government
funding, managed by Royal Society Te Apārangi (Award Number: MFP-UOO2322).
